Definition Full-Time (Salaried) Pay Band 02 Job Description The Chesapeake Health Department is seeking an Office Services Specialist to provide support to our Environmental Health Department. This position independently performs a variety of complex program support duties which require interpretation of current agency policy and state law. This position will be the first-contact with the general public concerning private sewage disposal and water supplies, restaurants, tourist establishments, public swimming pools, rabies, and other Environmental Health programs. Additionally, this position is responsible for maintaining files, determining and collecting fees, coding them to the appropriate fund, coordinating rabies investigations, and compiles historical data on well and onsite installations for construction, researches applicants' property and adjoining properties using files of tax map information and property records at local jurisdictions.

Minimum Qualifications This position requires a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; ability to understand & apply a high degree of knowledge of agency and state policies & procedures; ability to interpret & apply complex rules & regulations; computer knowledge to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; good communication and teamwork skills; and flexibility in stressful situation. Good organizational and prioritization skills are required. Applicants must be able to work in a multi-disciplinary environment and be able to apply knowledge effectively and accurately. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of Lotus Notes, intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and notary public preferred. Prior experience in an administrative support role and working with the public are also preferred.

Special Requirements Pre-appointment ciminal record and background investigations are required. Valid driver's license required.
