Assistant Building Official- ( City Of Portsmouth)

The City of Portsmouth is seeking a professional to perform technical and enforcement duties in compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code. Supervises a technical staff to ensure adherence to the current building codes. Work involves review of complex construction documents for compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and educating the public on building safety concerns and code compliance. Acts in the place of the Building Official in his absence


Requirements

Requires Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Management or a related field; 3 - 5 years progressively responsible work experience in building inspections, engineering, construction or related field, including two years of supervisory experience; or any related experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.



Must possess a valid Driver’s License issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must possess a certification as an ICC/VA Combination Inspector (commercial and residential), ICC/VA certification as a Building Plans Examiner, ICC/VA certification as a Building Official and a Virginia certified Amusement Device Inspector and all credentials must be obtained within three years of hire.
