The NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD in Portsmouth, Virginia is one of the largest shipyards in the world specializing in repairing, overhauling and modernizing ships and submarines. It is the oldest and largest industrial facility that belongs to the U.S. Navy, and it's also the most multifaceted.



This job announcement will be used to establish and maintain a standing register that will be used to fill vacancies on an as needed basis at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard for 6 months.
Cut – off dates will be established as needed.

DUTIES:

· Assists journey-level painters with preparing various surfaces for painting by removing foreign materials, grease, rust, etc .
· Prepares chemical solutions for degreasing surfaces and objects to be painted .
· Prepares and smoothes surfaces with abrasive papers and cloths, wire brushes, rotary abrasive discs, belts, scalers, etc .
· Fills cracks and holes with putty or plastic wood fillers; sands and rubs surface as required.
