JOB SUMMARY:

This position will work under the direction and supervision of the professional nurse performs various duties. Attaches dialyzer and tubing to machine to assemble for use. Mixes dialysate, according to formula. Primes dialyzer with saline or heparinized solution to prepare machine for use. Transports patient to dialysis room and positions patient on lounge chair at hemodialysis machine. Takes and records patient''s predialysis weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate, and respiration rate. Explains dialysis procedure and operation of hemodialysis machine to patient before treatment to allay anxieties. Inspects and cleans area of access (fistula, graft, or catheter). Connects hemodialysis machine to access in patient's forearm or catheter site to start blood circulating through dialyzer.. Requirements: New Grads welcome to apply. JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Additional Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Initiating and discontinuing dialysis treatments. Monitoring of machines and patient vital signs during dialysis treatments (i.e. blood pressure, blood flow, etc.). Initiation of appropriate measures in the case of abnormalities in patient vital signs (hypo or hypertension, arrhythmia, seizure) or equipment malfunctions under supervision of an RN. Documents through EMR accurately the status of the patient. Will have completed a training program for the monitoring and testing of water that has been approved by the Medical Director and governing body. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent. Certification requirement may be waived with verifiable on-the-job training and experience It is an essential part of the job that the employer can ask the employee to work beyond his/her regularly scheduled hours. If not currently certified as a Dialysis Technician, must be certified within 18 months of hire as a Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) or Clinical Nephrology Technologist (CCNT). Must have the ability to deal with a variety of people under stressful circumstances. Must be able to work independently as well as a member of a team. Must be proficient in the use of computers. Must be able to multitask and have exceptional organizational skills. Must have good verbal and written communication skills. Experience in dialysis or a graduate of an accredited Dialysis Technician program is preferred, though a minimum of one full year of working experience in a direct patient care role within a hospital or clinic setting may be considered.
