Accounts Payable Specialist - Norfolk - The New York Times

Accounts Payable Specialist Job

Date: Aug 8, 2014

Location: Norfolk, VA, US

This position works in a team environment providing a high level of customer support to internal customers and external vendors in accordance with established policies and procedures for Accounts Payable and T&E Administration.

Responsibilities:
- Provide superior customer service. Build and maintain strong rapport with financial colleagues to deliver first-rate customer service
- Research and respond to daily inquiries from internal and external customers in a courteous, professional, and timely manner
- Review and process invoices accurately while meeting established service level agreements
- Process and evaluate open item reports and adhere to escalation procedures
- Perform general administrative and clerical functions for the purpose of supporting departmental operations. Ensure documents are maintained in accordance with the record retention policy.
- Maintain strong understanding of internal controls and SOX compliance. Develop and maintain documented departmental job aid procedures.
- Function as back-up to other AP specialists as needed.
- Create ad hoc reports/queries and provide accurate data.
- Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the ERP system.
- Participate in special projects and complete tasks as assigned.

Technical Knowledge/Skills Required:
- Superior customer service skills, patience and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Experience working in a network environment with client server technology and proficiency using PeopleSoft, People Tools and related PeopleSoft applications or a similar financial system

Education or Certifications Required: HS Diploma or equivalent

Work Experience Required: 2+ years of full cycle Accounts Payable processing including invoice processing, vendor maintenance, cash management, travel and expense reporting
