Office Services Assistant
Dept of Juvenile Justice - Chesapeake, VA
The First District Court Service Unit is currently seeking a qualified Office Services Assistant to provide clerical and administrative support functions. Duties include: answering and directing telephone calls using multi-line phone system; providing assistance to visitors, police personnel, and clients; entering/retrieving/filing documents and information into agency data systems or manual files; typing and proofreading court reports and other agency documents; preparing agency mail.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Recent experience providing customer service and administrative support in a professional office environment. Experience using multi-line communication system. Knowledge of office practices and procedures including Business English to ensure proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar usage is needed. Strong computer/data entry skills and knowledge of various software programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel. The ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing to staff and general public is also needed. Additional qualifications include: experience with automated office equipment (i.e. computers, printers, copiers, fax, and mailing machines), and ability to prioritize work. Position calls for flexibility and the ability to work well with all levels of internal management, staff, court and police personnel, and the general public.

Preferred Qualifications
Prefer post-secondary courses in office administration or equivalent training or experience in a related field. Experience handling sensitive, complex, and confidential information. Experience working in a legal enviroment is also preferred.
