POSITION SUMMARY

Appropriately assigns ICD-9, CPT and HCPS codes to inpatient and outpatient medical records. Meets or exceeds productivity standards. Appropriately assigns correct DRG. Effectively interacts with CDMP program. Abstracts data from the medical record.

POSITION SUMMARY

1. RHIA or RHIT or CCS preferred. If experienced, required to obtain CCS within first year.

2. Previous coding experience; at least five (5) years experience in an H.I.M. coding department of an acute care

facility.

3. Requires strong skills in the following areas: interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written;

problem identification and analysis; evaluation of medical records

4. Requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, to include accurate data entry skills.

5. Working knowledge of H.I.M. computer applications and software integration with multiple systems is

preferred. Previous experience with 3M Endcoder and SoftMed systems preferred.

6. A strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office applications is preferred.

7. Requires the ability to: be mobile; move to all areas of the department and facility; and be able to lift objects

consistent with normal HIM environment; uses lifting techniques demonstrated or discussed in orientation.

8. Knows existing policies/procedures and ensures that existing processes are performed according to these

policies and procedures.
