Description POSITION SUMMARY:
Stay & Play present an opportunity for early child development while meeting the need of parents and family members who participate in Y programs and activities. While keeping children safe in a nurturing, caring environment, Stay & Play provides young children additional opportunities for holistic development, social experiences, and learning through play. Stay & Play elevates traditional drop-in child care to include key YMCA program elements, including healthy eating, fun physical activity, positive relationships and enriching activities. As with all child/youth programs in the Y, Stay & Play supports health and well-being, character development, and excitement about learning.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Helps to carry out activities, experiences, and routines under the guidance and supervision of the Stay & Play Coordinator/ Director.
2. Promotes a team concept through a positive approach to supervision, communication, and interactions with others.
3. Understands supports and adheres to, the Stay & Play Gold Standards.
4. Uses a diverse selection of materials, equipment and experiences for all participants.
5. Builds effective, authentic relationship with children and their parents.
6. Organizes, cleans and puts away, all stay & Play Materials. Reports damaged materials and take them out of circulation.
7. Upholds the association’s child protection policies, child abuse and neglect guidelines, and proper reporting procedures at all times.
8. Helps to facilitate a positive program environment that develops self-control in children through the use of positive guidance techniques.
9. Maintains ongoing communication with supervisor.
10. Demonstrates appropriate decision-making abilities.
11. Demonstrates a working knowledge of YMCA mission, values, purpose, and goals. Strives for the highest standards of program excellence.
12. Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Minimum 16 years or older
2. Six or more months working with children- ages 6 weeks to 7 years old-in a nursery or child care setting.
3. CPR/AED (including Infant/Child) certification (or ability to certify within 60 days of employment)
4. First Aid certification (or ability to certify within 60 days of employment)
5. Complete all pre-employment trainings before first day on floor.
6. Adequate speaking, hearing and writing skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.
7. Able to communicate and work effectively with groups of children and their parents in a loving yet professional manner.
8. Clear Lexis Nexis & C.P.S. check. Negative TB test. Knowledge and maturity to observe children’s behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety practices and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
9. Ability to manage the daily administrative, program-related and supervisory responsibilities of a Stay & Play program.
10. Ability to be punctual at scheduled work times.
11. Demonstrated ability to engage in all functions associated with the daily care, activities, and routines of program’s children.




PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to:

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to talk, hear and see clearly. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally work in outside weather conditions, and is occasionally exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions. May occasionally be exposed to cleaning supplies and the noise level in the room is usually loud..
